Product Care & Maintenance Guide
Love your gear and it will love you back
Your Serendipity Dogwear Co. gear is made for muddy walks, rainy adventures, beach days and everything in between. Our waterproof coated webbing is wonderfully durable and easy to care for, but a little regular maintenance will help keep your gear looking beautiful and performing at its best for longer.
First things first — it isn’t chew proof!
Our waterproof coated webbing is highly durable, but it is not chew proof. Please never leave collars, leads, long lines or other equipment with a dog who is likely to chew.
Chewing can damage both the webbing and hardware and may compromise the safety and strength of the product.
Keeping your gear clean
For everyday dirt, drool and dust, simply wipe your gear with a damp cloth, baby wipe or suitable sanitising wipe, then pat dry.
For a deeper clean:
- Rinse with lukewarm water.
- Wash gently using warm water and a mild dish soap.
- Use a soft cloth to remove any stubborn dirt.
- Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
- Pat dry with a clean cloth.
Our waterproof coated webbing is designed to be wonderfully easy to clean, so even lighter colours that show the mud a little more easily can usually be brought back to looking lovely with minimal effort.
Please do not machine wash your Serendipity gear.
If your dog is a regular beach babe, give your gear a thorough rinse with fresh water after exposure to seawater or salt water. Salt can contribute to corrosion of metal hardware, so rinsing and drying your gear promptly is one of the best things you can do to help protect it.
The same applies after particularly muddy or wet adventures — rinse away the dirt and allow everything to dry before storing.
If your dog spends lots of time around water, stainless steel or solid brass hardware is our recommended choice for improved resistance to corrosion. These hardware options can be requested when ordering, so please get in touch if you need a beach friendly setup.
Looking after your hardware
Hardware deserves a little love too!
After exposure to saltwater or chlorinated water, rinse all hardware thoroughly with fresh water and pat dry straight away.
Regularly check your clips, buckles, D-rings and rivets for any signs of wear, damage or deterioration. If anything looks compromised, stop using the product and replace.
If a clasp becomes stiff or sticky, a small drop of WD-40 can be worked gently into the mechanism. Wipe away any excess before use.
A note about powder coated hardware
Our black and rose gold hardware is powder coated. While these finishes look beautiful and complement our colours perfectly, the coating can naturally wear or chip over time through regular use, particularly where hardware comes into contact with other metal components, the ground or rough surfaces.
This is considered normal wear and tear and is not a manufacturing fault. We cannot be held responsible for cosmetic wear to powder coated hardware caused by normal use.
What to keep away from your gear
Please avoid exposing your Serendipity products to:
- Bleach and harsh cleaning chemicals
- Acetone
- Alcohol-based products
- Flea treatments
- DEET-based insect repellents
- Abrasive cleaning products or tools, including wire brushes and scouring pads
- High heat, including radiators, tumble dryers and hot cars
Harsh chemicals and high temperatures can damage the coating, affect colours, weaken materials or cause hardware finishes to deteriorate.
Storing your Serendipity gear
When your adventures are over, give your gear a clean if necessary and allow it to dry completely before putting it away.
Store your products somewhere cool, dry and out of direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to sunlight can cause colours to fade and, over time, may cause the material to become stiff.
When storing long lines, leads and other longer products, avoid tightly coiling them for long periods as this can create permanent kinks. Where possible, hang them loosely or lay them flat.
And please don’t leave your gear sitting in a hot car — your dog might love adventures, but your dog gear isn’t a fan of a sauna!
A little care goes a long way
Our products are made to be used and enjoyed, not wrapped in cotton wool. Mud, rain and adventures are all part of the fun!
A quick rinse after a beach trip, a wipe down after a muddy walk and a regular check of the hardware will help keep your Serendipity gear looking beautiful and ready for whatever adventure comes next.
Please remember: all dog equipment should be checked regularly and replaced immediately if it shows signs of significant wear, damage or weakness. Your dog’s safety should always come first.
